**CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS** BEAR PIT #9

We would love to have your submission to Bear Pit Zine #9. As usual, all comics, illustration and other forms of sequential art are welcome!

Theme: “Compulsion”

Deadline: Sunday 4th May 2014

Zine Format: The zine is in black and white, but greys print out well. Due to increasing demand for space, max pages per submission is now 4; minimum is still 1. (Within these limitations, we have no bias regarding length).

Only one submission per contributor please.

Paper size: The zine will be printed on A5. Your artwork should fit within these dimensions (148 x 210mm), HOWEVER, this issue will be printed with FULL BLEED, so if you are planning to draw to the edge, you can provide a 4mm bleed around your image (making it 156x218mm), and either mark in the file or let us know you’ve included bleed. If you’ve any questions regarding ‘bleed’, and/or need a template, please email.

Submission Format: Please send your files as .psd, .png or .tiff, and at no less than 300 dpi. One file per page.

Contents: All contributions take the theme of ‘Compulsion’ - you’re free to interpret this as you will. Although we do emphasize the comic/sequential-art nature of Bear Pit Zines, any combination of words and pictures will be considered.
Finally, we are open to submissions from any and all, but we do ask that the contributor and/or their work retain some kind of connection to the city/area of Bristol.

Printing & Distribution: When all submissions are in, as per usual we will ask contributors to place and pay for pre-orders (at cost-price). Cost price per unit will be approximately £1.60 (this includes the colour cover). For this issue there will also be additional distribution at the Bear Pit Zines fundraiser event (in late May) for our 2014 Comic and Zine Fair (October 4th).

Please send your submissions to bearpitzines@gmail.com

BCZF 2013 Exhibitors Announced!

We are pleased to announce the full list of exhibitors for BCZF 2013. We have over 40 incredible artists, writers and makers exhibiting and selling their work at the fair.

From published cartoonists to zinesters and from print makers to illustrators, from Bolton to Brighton, Exeter to Edinburgh, BCZF has it all. There’s a big Bristol contingent, including the Sicker Than Thou collaborators Emma and Godfrey, plus Paula Knight, Paul Ashley Brown, Graham Johnson and many more. We’ll have established British artists such as the DECADENCE collective, Lizz Lunney, Jack Teagle, Donya Todd, David Ziggy Green and Philippa Rice selling their work, not to mention Issy Greenberg, the cartoonist and illustrator responsible for BCZF’s awesome promotional artwork.

As well as a host of debuting comics and zines, we’ll be the first convention where you can buy artist Katie Green’s new graphic memoir, Lighter Than My Shadow. Published by Jonathan Cape, LTMS is a deeply moving 500+ page chronicle of eating disorders, abuse and recovery. Gareth Brookes’ new book ‘The Black Project’, a Graphic Novel created entirely in the mediums of embroidery and linocut relief print, will also receive its convention debut at BCZF.

There’s also a great range of work being offered by collectives of artists from Bristol, Falmouth, Brighton and Gloucestershire. They’ll all be bringing a diverse range of publications, prints and handmade items. Exeter zine and art shop extraordinaire No Guts No Glory will be in attendance, too, adding to a wonderfully diverse roster of creative people.

Finally, as if that’s not enough, Comic Book Slumber Party will also be curating an entire room of workshops, comics and general awesomeness.

You can read about all of our exhibitors on the BCZF website. Keep an eye out, too, as we add more information about our amazing artists – and don’t forget: spread the word!

Issue #6 Instigation Meet

With issue #5 out and circulating, we’re now moving our attentions on to the next issue.

Please do come along to the King William (King Street, Bristol, UK) for 7:30pm on Tues the 5th of March to discuss the format and theme of the next issue.  We’ll make these decisions together, and in the past has always been both constructive and fun.  All are welcome, whether you’ve contributed before or not, and whether you even anticipate contributing to the next issue or not.  And if you can’t make it, please do send across an email with any ideas of format and especially theme and we will voice them on your behalf.

Bristol Comic and Zine Fair 2011 - Booked Up

We’re happy to announce that all of the table spaces for our forthcoming comic and zine fair are now booked up.  Sorry to anyone who’s missed out.

Even if you’ve not got a table, you can still bring a couple of things along to sell on the communal table.  There is no need to book space on the communal table, and nor do we take any commission; though we are happy for you to volunteer even half an hour of your time to supervise it.

Look forward to seeing you all at the event - Sunday 25th of September 2011, 12-6PM - it is gonna rock!
